12d MODEL FUNDAMENTALS
A Starter Course for 12d Model
This course is ideal for anyone new to 12d Model. You will learn how to:
- Navigate 12d Model.
- Open an existing 12d Model project.
- Create a new 12d Model project and load data into it.
- Inquire and measure.
- Create a TIN from survey data.
- Generate and export contours.
- Produce plotted outputs directly from 12d Model to PDF.
- Export data to CAD.
Even if you’ve already used 12d Model and received informal guidance from colleagues, this course offers valuable insights and techniques.
By the end of this course, you will:
- Be familiar with the 12d Model user interface.
- Know how to load and triangulate survey data.
- Be able to create contours.
- Have experience with simple drafting tools in 12d Model.
- Understand the basics of plotting and exporting data.
Course Outline

Open an Existing Project
- Inspect and review the data.

Start a New Project
- Load a CAD file of cadastral boundaries.
- Import a 12daz file of survey data.

Create a Triangulation (TIN)
- Generate a TIN from the survey data.
- Edit the TIN by removing long triangles.

Use CAD Tools
- Perform basic drafting using 12d Model’s CAD features.

Interrogate the Data
- Use the string inquiry and measurement tools.
- Display elevations and codes on-screen.

Search for Commands
- Learn how to find commands in 12d Model using keywords.

Generate Contours
- Create contour strings from the TIN.

Plotting Techniques
- Use two plotting methods: Quick Sheet Plotting and MPS (Multi-Page Plotting)

Very informative
Have been using 12d for a while but learnt a couple new skills so good even for experienced users.
There's some good information but sometimes it moves a little fast so having go back and re listen to somethings if you missed it but then not being able to skip forward again was annoying. Feel like it concentrates on contouring a lot and other things are just breezed through. creating lines and points perpendicular to a line from the end point would be helpful to me in my role.
